How can I buy your work?

I open my online shop regularly with new collections of work. The next opening will be in Spring 2024 - sign up to my newsletter to be informed of the specifics of each shop opening.

What are your shipping costs? Do you ship internationally?

UK shipping is included in the cost of each item in my online shop.

I do ship internationally, Current prices are:

Europe: £12 per order plus £8 per item

International: £20 per order plus £10 per item

(‘item’ is per listing within the shop, which is often a group of pieces)

How do you keep things safe/protected in the post?

I pack very carefully! It depends on the item/s, but usually this involves several layers of protective packing. Plates are stacked with cardboard between. I pack the parcels tightly with void fill to prevent movement. For delicate items or long-distance shipping of multiple items I may double box.

Can I commission something specific?

Yes, I do accept commissions, usually from restaurants. Depending on my workload at a given time, I may also be able to accept smaller commissions - please get in touch with your request.

Where can I find more information about commissions?

Please see my commission info page.

How do you make your work?

All of my work is handbuilt. I use pinch, coil and slab techniques, brushwork, carving and handcut reliefs. I generally use stoneware clays, quite groggy ones, and I make my own glazes.

I intend to make some video tutorials soon with more information about my making process - watch this space!

Where did you learn how to make ceramics?

I started a kids Saturday-morning ceramics class when I was 10 - it was at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design (how amazing that they did a class for kids!)

Later, I did a Ceramics A-Level, and then studied a Fine Art Degree at London Guildhall.

I have definitely done my best learning as a member of various shared studios over the last 10 years (Turning Earth, The Kiln Rooms, In Production, the Coburg Road Studios). Sharing a space with other artists creates an ongoing learning environment which has been incredibly beneficial. I am so grateful to my clay friends for all of their help and advice over the years!

Do you offer lessons?

Not currently but once I have a studio where this is possible then I will.

Have you always been a ceramic artist?

No. I spent my twenties doing other jobs. I managed a music venue, worked at a couple of amazing charities focusing on disability access and education, ran an urban-farming project and worked for a creativity awards company.

In hindsight, all of these jobs gave me skills that have been useful to working as a self employed artist.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere. I soak up imagery constantly - in real life, online, in galleries and museums, in nature, in the city. My phone is full of photos of things that have caught my eye - colour, form, pattern. At any given moment I’ll have dozens of photos of clouds in my phone. Dozens more of crumbling brickwork, branches, skylines, shadows, moss - I could go on..

My home and studio are full of plants, art, objects - crafted objects but also stones, twigs, shells. I have sketches pinned to the walls, along with postcards, torn pictures from magazines, scribbled descriptions of imagined work - I like to surround myself with visuals.

Who have you made work for? Where have you exhibited?

Please see my about page for a list of exhibitions, and my projects page for more information about commissions I have undertaken.

Can your pieces go in the dishwasher?

My plates should be fine in a domestic dishwasher. Gentle detergents are always better than the more aggressive ones. Machine washing can slightly alter the finish of glazed ceramics (over a period of time with repeated use) - 'fogging' the glaze as can happen with glassware, but as my glazes are not glossy this effect would not really be noticeable.

(I put mine in the dishwasher all the time and there's no issue!)

Are your pieces food safe?

Yes, all of my tableware (i.e. plates/bowls) are food safe. Vessels are food safe unless stated otherwise.
